Oyo Governor Receives New Civil Defence Commandant, Pledges Support

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has received the newly appointed Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oyo State Command, Commandant Augustine Padonu, at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan, the state capital.

A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State NSCDC, DSC Samuel Opebiyi, says Commandant Padonu, who recently assumed office, had paid a courtesy visit on the governor to introduce himself and discuss ways to strengthen the existing partnership between the NSCDC and the Oyo State Government, in ensuring the security of lives and property in the state.

Governor Makinde commended the NSCDC for its efforts in maintaining peace and order in the state, noting that the Corps had played a crucial role in preventing and responding to security threats, and expressed his appreciation for its dedication and professionalism.

The governor assured Commandant Padonu of his administration’s commitment to provide the necessary support to the NSCDC to enable it carry out its mandate effectively, pledging to address the Corps’ logistical and infrastructural needs, including the provision of vehicles and office accommodation.

In his remarks, Commandant Padonu thanked Governor Makinde for his support and promised to work closely with the state government to address security challenges in Oyo State, while outlining plans to enhance the operational capacity of the NSCDC in the state, including the deployment of more personnel and the establishment of new formations in strategic locations.

The meeting also discussed the need for improved collaboration between the NSCDC and other security agencies in the state, as governor Makinde emphasised the importance of synergy among the various security outfits in sharing intelligence, conducting joint operations, and responding promptly to security incidents.

Padonu expressed his gratitude to the governor for his warm reception and pledged to work tirelessly to justify the confidence reposed in him, assuring that the NSCDC would continue to discharge its duties with diligence and professionalism, in line with its statutory mandate.

The meeting ended with both parties expressing optimism that the renewed partnership between the Oyo State Government and the Corps would lead to improved security outcomes in the state.
