The Oyo State House of Assembly has passed the Persons Living With Disability (Amendment) Bill, 2022, into law.
The Bill was passed after its report was presented by the Chairman of the Committee on Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Wumi Oladeji and the clause by clause consideration by the Committee of the whole House during plenary.
The bill, sponsored by Oladeji, was passed into law in 2016 during the 8th Assembly.
Speaking on the major areas amended by the House in the Law, the lawmaker, who is representing Ogbomoso North State Constituency, said the law has made provision for the establishment of an agency for the persons living with disability, adding that the agency would be under the supervision of the state governor.
Oladeji further said the law had provided that 50 percent of the members of staff to be recruited in the agency would be persons living with disability.
Also included in the law, according to the lawmaker, is the reservation of special parking lots and spaces inside buses and public transport for people living with disability, in order to make life easy for them.
