Oyo NSCDC Sensitizes Officers on Use of Forensic Evidence

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in Oyo State, has organised its 4th annual sensitization lecture, for officers and men of the Corps.

A statement signed by the CD PRO, CSC Oluwole Olusegun, indicates that during the one-day sensitisation lecture, held at the Area A Command, Railway Quarters, Ibadan, the Chief Judge of OYO State, Justice Munta Abimbola, educated the officers on what to do and not to do in order to win cases while in court, and disclosed that the “OYO NSCDC has all it takes to make security of life and property safe and preserved”. 

The statement notes that the State Commandant of the NSCDC, CC Adaralewa Michael, while declaring the programme open, appreciated  the chief Judge of Oyo State for coming in person without considering his tight schedule and for seeing impacting knowledge to the officers and men of the NSCDC as paramount.

According to the statement, a Chief Consultant, Forensic Pathologist and Clinical Physician, Department of Pathology and Head of the Forensic Medicine Unit, University College Hospital UCH, Ibadan, Dr Uwom Eze, JP, who gave a key note message, stressed that Nigeria did not make room for forensic analysis in her architectural framework of ascertaining the level of crime in the country.

Another speaker at the 4th annual sensitization lecture of the NSCDC is the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mrs Ngozi Onadeko, who was represented by Superintendent of Police (SP) Yusuf Babatunde, OC Finger Print, spoke about the application of forensic in the investigation of criminal cases.

Also at the event, Mr Olayinka Esan, Chairman, Nigeria Bar Association, Ibadan Branch, who was represented by Kazeem Adekunle Gbadamosi, spoke on the use of forensic evidence in criminal cases defense and Dr Orijeme Emuobosa, Senior Lecturer, Department of Archaeology and Anthropology, University of Ibadan, delivered a lecture on the use and application of forensic pathology in the investigation of criminal cases.

The CDPRO revealed, in the statement, that the theme of the 4th annual sensitization lecture is: Forensic, an Emerging Tool at the Disposal of the Justice System in Nigeria.
