The Speaker of the 9th Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, and his deputy, Abiodun Fadeyi, have both retained their positions in the State 10th Assembly.
The Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin represents Ibarapa East State Constituency in the State Assembly, while Deputy Speaker Abiodun Fadeyi represents Ona Ara State Constituency.
The duo, who were declared winners after being nominated for the post without any opposition, emerged at the inauguration of the Assembly at the Hallowed Chamber, Oyo State House of Assembly Complex, Agodi-Secretariat, Ibadan.
In his acceptance speech shortly after taking the Oath of Office as the Speaker of the Oyo State 10th House of Assembly, Ogundoyin promised to build on the enviable achievements of the 9th Assembly, while appreciating the Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for believing in him and supporting him.
He also expressed gratitude to all his colleagues for the trust and confidence they reposed in him for the second time.
“I am truly humbled by the trust and confidence you have placed in me and other elected principal officers of the House, and I assure you that we will work tirelessly to exceed the groundbreaking achievements of the Oyo State 9th House of Assembly,” he said.
Ogundoyin described his reelection as not only significant for him and his family but also momentous for the entire people of his constituency, assuring that the Oyo State 10th House of Assembly would build upon the foundation already laid by him and the leadership of the 9th Assembly and work with all stakeholders to place Oyo State House of Assembly on a higher pedestal.
“It is an epoch-making moment in the history of the Legislature in Oyo State because this is the first time we are having a Speaker elected for two consecutive Assemblies – uninterrupted.
“It is equally not on record that a lawmaker from my zone has become a Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly on two occasions, let alone a Speaker for two consecutive Assemblies.
“This unambiguously places a greater burden on me to deliver and to ensure that my name and that of other remaining 31 Honourable members are written in gold at the end of this 10th Assembly,” the Speaker pledged.
Similarly, the member representing Ogbomoso South State Constituency, Sanjo Adedoyin, emerged the majority leader of the House.
The event was attended by Governor Seyi Makinde; Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal; Chief of Staff, Segun Ogunwuyi; former Speaker of the Oyo Assembly, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu and the Head of Service, Olubunmi Oni, among other top government functionaries.
