The running mate to the Oyo State governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mr Emmanuel Oyewole, has defected to the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
Oyewole, who also denounced his allegiance to the ADC, said Governor Seyi Makinde had worked well in the last three and half years and deserved to be supported, affirming that Governor Makinde had fulfilled all his promises to the ADC after the party supported him to emerge victorious in the 2019 governorship election, by giving various political appointments to ADC members.
Speaking during a press conference which held at the NUJ Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan, on Friday, Oyewole said he was moving to the PDP with his supporters from across the state, noting that he was never part of the decision to suspend Senator Monsurat Sunmonu and others who last week defected to the PDP.
The Igboho, Oorelope Local Government Area born politician called on everyone in the state to work together and support Governor Makinde to deliver and do more in the coming political dispensation, saying only Makinde deserved to contest the 2023 governorship election in the state because “one good term deserves another”.
Oyewole said “I am the running mate to the Governorship Candidate of the ADC in Oyo State, Dr. Ganiyu Dele Ajadi, for the 2023 governorship election. But we are here today for what I will describe as a landmark event, a turning point in the race for the 2023 governorship election.
“I, Emmanuel Oyetayo Oyewole, the Deputy Governorship candidate of the ADC in Oyo State, hereby denounce my membership of the ADC and pledge my total allegiance to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). I and my followers, spread across the state, have considered this decision and I can say with all sense of responsibility that I have taken this decision in the interest of Oyo State,” he declared.
Oyewole further said, under the Governor Makinde-led administration, Oyo State was gradually transforming into the state of the dreams of citizens, asserting that the different success stories in human capacity development, infrastructure development, economic expansion, improved education, security of lives and properties and health delivery in the state, gladden the hearts of citizens.
He disclosed that as loyal and patriotic indigenes of Oyo State, he and the teeming members of the ADC who had earlier signed to his aspiration as ADC Deputy Governorship candidate, want the positive developments to continue and believed that only Governor Makinde could make it possible.
“This is why I, Emmanuel Oyetayo Oyewole, am declaring that from this day, 21st October, 2022, I am marching forward with Omituntun 2.0, the greater level of accelerated development and people-oriented leadership, which Governor Makinde has provided in Oyo State since 2019,” Oyewole concluded.
