The Council of Obas in Oyo State has applauded Governor Seyi Makinde for delivering good governance, building infrastructure and defending the interest of the state.

The royal fathers, who converged in the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Ibadan, declared their support, stating that the good works being done by the Makinde-led administration across the state should continue beyond 2023.

Speaking on behalf of the royal fathers, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, maintained that the monarchs are proud of the governor for his massive achievements in office in a little over three years.

He spoke through the Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, High Chief Lateef Adebimpe; the Okere of Saki, Oba Khalid Olabisi and the Olugbon of Ile Igbon, Oba Fransis Olusola Alao,

The Okere of Saki, Oba Khalid Olabisi, who listed some of the governor’s achievements, disclosed that the Obas had convened the meeting to appreciate the governor for his unprecedented achievements in the state and to call for continuity of what he started three years ago, saying the people of Oyo State would re-elect the governor come 2023.

He stated: “Truth is, there are a lot more projects that need to be done and we believe someone like him would deliver because he can be trusted. In Yorubaland, we believe in rewarding good work with good deeds and that is why we will work to re-elect him in 2023. We are happy with the good works the governor is doing and we are here to show gratitude to him.”

Similarly, the Olugbon of Orile Igbon, Oba Francis Alao, maintained that it takes a good leader and a prudent administrator to achieve everything Makinde had achieved in Oyo State, stating that traditional rulers in the state had resolved that the governor had performed well and should be allowed to continue in office.

Olugbon said: “I used to be an accountant before I became a king. With my knowledge of accounting, I know the economic challenges we are facing as a nation and I know that it takes a good leader, a prudent and skillful administrator to do what the current government has done so far in Oyo State.

“We are not driven by emotions and sentiments but by Governor Makinde’s excellent performance. So, we can assure you that we will work tirelessly for the re-election of the governor in 2023. God will help you and we will give you the needed support,” he affirmed.

High Chief Adebimpe, who spoke on behalf of the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Lekan Balogun, who was also in attendance at the event, said the state has, indeed, witnessed unprecedented development under the leadership of the incumbent governor, noting that Ibadans always commend good works and that Governor Makinde, who is a true son of the soil, should be allowed to continue in office.

Responding, Bayo Lawal, who received the traditional rulers on behalf of Governor Makinde, praised the royal fathers’ resolve to support the continuity of the good work being done by the governor, promising that the administration would not relent in delivering good governance to the state, in line with the vision of the governor.

“As traditional rulers who appreciate the good works the government is doing across the state, I want to beg that you continue to pray for the governor. Wherever you feel you can make corrections, please don’t hesitate to table it before us. Your duty is to advise us from time to time.”

On the request by the Okere of Saki for a review of the Oyo State Chieftaincy Law, the Acting Governor said he had documented the issue and others and that the governor would be adequately briefed.
