The Oyo State Health Insurance Agency (OYSHIA) says it has enrolled over 60% of targeted enrollees into the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) scheme.

The Executive Secretary of the Oyo State Health Insurance Agency (OYSHIA), Dr Sola Akande, disclosed this in a statement signed by the Co-ordinating Director, Oyo State Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Gideon Alade, affirming that the agency had reviewed upwards the number of enrollees for BHCPF, to accommodate more residents of the state.

Akande stated: “The Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) is financed through 1% of Federal Government consolidated revenue given to states that have fulfilled certain laid down guidelines.”

He noted that the BHCPF was initially aimed at capturing 37,500 indigenes that include the aged, children (under 5), physically challenged and pregnant women, across the 33 local government areas of the state, revealing that about 22,018 lives had so far been enrolled into the scheme.

The OYSHIA boss asserted that the agency was currently enrolling more lives, and the reviewed figure now stood at 65,000 lives.

Akande said the enrolment was part of the commitment of the Govvernor Seyi Makinde-led administration to deliver on Universal Health Care (UHC) services through the provision of a Basic Minimum Package of Health Services (BMPHS) and emergency medical treatment.

He assured successful enrollees that they could access care without paying out-of-pocket through the ID card issued to them by the agency.

The BHCPF primary objective is to help achieve Universal Health coverage and enhance access to primary health care services for Oyo State residents, especially the poor and the vulnerable, such as women, children under 5, and children in orphanages.
