Oyo State Government Empowers Farmers, Vulnerable persons

The Oyo State Government empowers vulnerable people in Ido Local Government, no fewer than 150 vulnerable people which includes farmers, widows, as well as aged persons benefited from the empowerment programme.

The programme which mainly involves the distribution of spraying machines, rain boot, chemicals for farmers as well as financial support, food materials and clothes for the widows and aged persons was carried out by the caretaker chairman, Ido local government, Bar. Saka Abiona Fashola.

According to Barrister Saka, ” It’s an open secret that women are a special breed called by God to showcase the much-desired integrity in the nation-building.

When it comes to financial accountability and transparency, women can help in changing the negative narrative. As a result of this, we decided to give financial support to the widows and aged persons.”

I also appeal to the government at all levels to give priority to women empowerment in their programmes and policies”

While addressing the beneficiaries during the ceremony which took place yesterday, Tuesday 22nd December 2020 at the Ido local government secretariat of the state, Barrister Saka urged the beneficiaries of the empowerment programme to make good use of the materials and financial support given to them.

He also highlighted some of his administration’s achievement so far to include; Procurement and installation of brand new transformer for Ido local government secretariat, sensitization campaign against COVID-19 as well as the distribution of COVID-19 palliative, renovation of the council’s multipurpose hall, rehabilitation of feeder roads across the council area and sinking of motorized boreholes in several locations within the local government, to mention just a few.

One of the beneficiaries, Mr Olawuyi who spoke to VON Correspondent, said they couldn’t cope with some financial challenges before the intervention but would make sure they make use of the little that was given to them wisely.

He also appreciated the chairman, Bar. Abiona Fashola as well as the executive governor of the state, Engr Seyi Makinde for making the scheme possible.

Also in attendance at the ceremony was the chairman committee on environment, labour, productivity and pension in Oyo state. Hon. Razak Adekunle Mabaje.

Hon. Mabaje and the caretaker chairman, Bar. Saka Fashola appealed to the good people of Ido local government and Oyo state at large to continue rallying their support for the Executive Governor of the State, Engr. Seyi Makinde in appreciation of his good deeds and sterling performance.

He rounded off by appreciating the members of the caretaker committee, members of the traditional council in Ido local government and other community leaders for their support and cooperation since the inception of his administration.
