The event, expected to include embassy representatives, prominent figures in tourism, financial institutions, and members of the international community, also seeks to draw investors keen on elevating the state’s tourist sites to meet global standards.
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, highlights that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, the summit’s host, has consistently conveyed his administration’s commitment to establishing tourism as a key economic foundation in the state.
In pursuit of this goal, Governor Makinde, through an executive order in 2023, established the Ministry of Culture and Tourism as a distinct entity separated from the Ministry of Information. The announcement specifies that the summit is scheduled to take place at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Ibadan.
The state government has, consequently, constituted a seven-man committee headed by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatubosun, to midwife the summit.
The members of the committee are, Hon. Akinola Ojo, Commissioner for Finance; Dr Debo Akande, Executive Adviser to the Governor on International Relations; and Dr Morounkola Thomas, Special Adviser, Socio-Economic Development.
Others are, Mr Tilewa Folami, Director General, Oyo State Investment and Public-Private Partnership Agency (OYSIPA); Mr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Special Adviser (Media); and Ms Abigail Anaba, Head of Content Marketing, Slvr Wlf.
The committee has since commenced operation.
