The Oyo State Government has sought for collaboration with Nigeria’s oldest tertiary institution, the University of Ibadan, on revamping the state’s Water Corporation, with a view to improving the erratic water supply in the state.
The Chairman of the Oyo State Water Corporation, Hon. Elias Adeojo, disclosed this on Saturday in Ibadan while leading a technical team from the university.
According to Adeojo, the corporation decided to partner with the team due to its enthusiasm, experience and renowned expertise in assisting the corporation in attaining its goals.
“The collaboration involves joining of forces and sharing of ideas on how to solve the issue of inconsistency in water supply in the state and sustaining it thereafter.
“The exercise will take off from the Asejire Water Supply Scheme, being the major aspect of water production of the corporation,” he noted.
In his own contribution, Prof. Bamidele Dahunsi, a member of the Technical Team and Head, Civil Engineering Department, University of Ibadan, said the team was ready to collaborate with the Water Corporation in revamping its critical infrastructure.
He further pledged the team’s support to the Oyo State Government to ensure provision of potable water to the inhabitants of the state.
Similarly, another member of the team, Engr. S.O. Adesogan, also from the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Ibadan, stressed that the Asejire Water Supply Scheme and other schemes were treasures to the Oyo State Government.
Adesogan maintained that with the goodwill of Governor Seyi Makinde and the Water Corporation’s chairman, the corporation would reclaim its lost glory of producing water for the people of the state in no distant time.
Other members of the technical team, who were unanimous on the issue of the collaboration, were Prof. A R Zubair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Prof. Odesola Issac, Department of Electrical and Hydro Electrical Engineering.
