Oyo State Presents Power Generating Sets to Primary Healthcare Centres

The Oyo State Government has started the equipping of the 351 Primary Healthcare Centres PHCs in the state, with the donation of new power-generating sets to the PHCs.
During a symbolic presentation of 97 generating sets to some primary healthcare centers, in Ibadan, the state capital, the Engineering Technical Lead of PHCs Renovation Committee, Ademola Aderinto, said, henceforth, PHCs would be powered by an alternative source, whenever there is disruption of power supply by the electricity provider.
Aderinto is also the Special Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on Environment, said Governor Makinde aimed to ensure that the 351 Primary Healthcare Centers in Oyo State are equipped for the comfort of patients, noting that part of the project’s goal is to deliver generators for electricity supply to all renovated centers.
He disclosed that the Oyo State Government had sunk boreholes to ensure a steady supply of water, not only to PHCs but also to their communities, through taps placed outside the PHCs, affirming that Makinde’s vision was to make healthcare more accessible and equitable to all residents of Oyo State.
Aderinto said, “Part of this vision is the renovation/upgrade of one PHC per ward, to make 351 wards in Oyo State to the standard category. This project which began in 2021, has resulted in over 206 newly renovated PHCs, as well as many newly built PHCs.
“This project was initiated by the Oyo State Governor’s Office, in collaboration with the Oyo State Primary Health Care Board and the Oyo State Ministry of Health, and is led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr Funmi Salami, as the Project Lead and Chairperson of the Renovation Committee,” he explained.
In the same vein, the Executive Secretary, of Oyo State Primary Healthcare Board, Dr Muideen Olatunji, said the government aims to make healthcare available to all Oyo State residents, revealing that the project was executed to ensure quality health service delivery at the center.
He thanked Dominant Engineering, who upgraded/built new 99 PHCs, for handing over 97 generators to the PHCs.
Earlier, the Chairman of, the Ward Development Committee (WDC), Mr Abdulfatah Oloyede, stated that the development initiative had been well-received by Oyo State communities.
He thanked the state government for the gesture, adding that WDC, an apolitical group, applauds the laudable gesture.
The event was graced by the Chairman, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), and Egbeda Local Government Area, Hon. Sikiru Sanda and the Chairman, Ibadan North Local Government Area, Saheed Oladayo Yusuf, among others.
