The Oyo State Government has kick-started the state’s Social Mobilisation Technical Committee (SOMTEC) in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF.

The Committee, which was relaunched by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, at the state Secretariat, Ibadan, had been abandoned since 2018.

At the relaunch in his office, on Thursday, his first day in Office, the Commissioner disclosed that the ministry would work with relevant agencies to undertake effective public awareness.

He said the ministry would ensure proper orientation of households on the need for disease prevention among children and women in some affected communities in the state.

Oyelade stated that the Ministry of Information and Orientation would intervene in the progress of children’s well-being in the state, in conjunction with other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

The relaunch, which was attended by the UNICEF Social Behavioural Change Specialist and other stakeholders from various MDAs, agreed to meet quarterly.

“We will cooperate with you and ensure everything within the purview of our job is done with utmost zeal,” the commissioner said.

The UNICEF Social Behavioural Change Specialist, Aderonke Akinola-Akinwole, said the quarterly meeting would ensure attitudinal change for results among parents and caregivers for a healthier Oyo State.

She urged MDAs and relevant stakeholders to work with UNICEF and the Ministry of Information and Orientation on achieving the new zest.

Also in attendance were the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Orientation, Dr Taiwo Ladipo, and Directors of the ministry.

Earlier, Prince Dotun Oyelade met with the Management Team of the Ministry, led by the Permanent Secretary (PS), Dr Taiwo Ladipo.

The Permanent Secretary noted that Prince Oyelade had the requisite expertise, integrity, courage, and experience to oversee the affairs of the Oyo State Ministry of Information and Orientation.
