Oyo Trains Workers On ICT, Basic English Skills

The Oyo State Government has organised training for about 500 workers on basic ICT application and skills acquisition in English, for language mastery, to enhance their efficiency and productivity.

 

The ongoing training for officers on grade levels 03 to 06 and 08 to 09 started on Monday at the Simeon Adebo Staff Development Centre, Secretariat, Ibadan, the state capital.

 

The Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Mr Siju Lawal, reiterated the state government’s commitment to training and equipping civil and public servants with skills required for optimal performance.

Lawal said that the training of the 500 participants, which was in series, is a refresher course for key officers in various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government and would last for two weeks with various related topics to discuss.

 

Communicate in English

He charged the participants to be versed in basic Information Technology and be able to communicate in English Language, stressing that about 60 percent of the world population communicates in English Language.

 

The Commissioner noted that officers should be able to read and write so as to understand and process correspondences in official files accordingly.

 

Welfare Of WorkForce

Lawal appreciated Governor Seyi Makinde for taking the welfare of the workforce as a matter of priority and for the training and re-training of workers at all levels.

 

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Establishments and Training, Mrs Oluyemisi Adebusuyi, explained that there is no limit to learning as it starts from birth till the last breath of every human.

 

Optimal Developmental Capacity

She emphasised that trainings and workshops are eye openers that sharpen understanding and equally facilitate optimal developmental capacity and productivity of officers.

 

Adebusuyi advised the participants to put in their best in their various offices so as to reciprocate the good gestures of Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration.

 

The Director, Management, Secretarial, Computer and Business Studies, Mrs Stella Okedum, also called on the participants to make the best use of the enormous wealth of knowledge gained at the training to enhance their efficiency in their work schedules.

 

Some of the courses lined up in the series for the participants include, Capacity Building Workshop on Effective Registry Administration and Communication for Clerical Officers; Capacity Building Workshop Programme on English Language for Administrative and Executive Officers and Performance Improvement Workshop for Account Officers and Auditors.
