The Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has approved the distribution of food palliatives to over 100,000 families in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) and Jere Local Government Area.
The Governor in a meeting with the ward working committee, outlined the initiation of distribution in the upcoming days, beginning with key wards in the heart of the city, they are Shehuri North and South, Feezan, Hausari, Gamboru, and Mafoni, with a minimum of 4,000 vulnerable families benefiting from each ward.
Zulum emphasized the transparent and accountable nature of the distribution process, ensuring that assistance reaches those in the greatest need. Additionally, he extended this initiative to seven more Local Government Areas in the southern part of the state, namely Biu, Hawul, Shani, Kwaya Kusar, Askira-Uba, Chibok, and Bayo.
He highlighted ongoing efforts in distributing cash and food items to areas affected by the Boko Haram insurgency, aiming to enhance livelihoods and deter vulnerable residents from terrorist recruitment.
The southern Borno palliative distribution is scheduled to launch in Biu in the coming weeks, extending support to communities with relative peace and established livelihoods. Despite agricultural efforts, Zulum stressed the importance of addressing the immediate needs of vulnerable families in the region.
