Paralympics: Folashade Strikes Gold in Powerlifting, Sets World Record

Nigeria increased her medal haul at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games in Japan, as Folashade Oluwafemiayo won Gold in the Women’s -86kg event, breaking the World and Paralympics Record on Monday.

Oluwafemiayo won Team Nigeria’s third gold medal of the Games with a World Record performance, lifting 152kg to underline her complete dominance of the event.

Loveline Obiji (Powerlifting)

Team Nigeria para-athlete Loveline Obiji won Silver in the Women’s +86kg Powerlifting event at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics in Japan. She lifted 147kg to claim Silver. This is Team Nigeria’s first silver medal of the Games, bringing the country’s haul to 6 medals.

Nigeria now has three Gold, one Silver and two Bronze medals after Day Eight of competition.

Flora Ugwunwa (Women’s F54 Shot Put)

Nigeria’s Flora Ugwunwa on Monday opened her Tokyo 2020 Paralympics account in the Women’s F54 Shot Put event, finishing 6th with a Season’s Best of 6.59m.

She ill return for her main event on Saturday as she looks to retain her Javelin F54 title. Ugwunwa is the World Record holder (20.25m) in the Javelin F54 event.
