Team Nigeria’s Bose Omolayo outclassed other competitors to win Gold in the women’s -79kg Powerlifting event at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Paralympics in Japan.

While claiming another gold medal for Nigeria, Omolayo also set a new Paralympic record with her best lift of 141kg in the 79kg female category.

Omolayo, 32, competed in the women’s 61 kg event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games where she won a Silver medal for Nigeria.

Omolayo and Tijani Latifat are now the only athletes who have won Gold medals for Team Nigeria so far. Two other Nigerian Paralympians, Olaitan Ibrahim and Lucy Ejike, clinched bronze medals in the powerlifting event as well.

Team Nigeria are now placed 24th on the medals table with China topping, followed by Great Britain in second.
