The National Working Committee, NWC of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has appointed Ambassador Umar Ililya Dagum as the party’s Acting National Chairman.
A statement issued in Abuja by PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba and made available to newsmen, indicates that the resolution was an outcome of an emergency meeting of the party’s National Working Committee, NWC, held today.
It explained that the decision to appoint Damagum, who before now was the Party’s Deputy National Chairman (North) to the position, was in line with the Order of the Benue State High Court, dated March 28, 2023, with regards to the Chairmanship position of the Party.
The statement reads in part: “after careful consideration of the Court Order and in line with Section 45 (2) of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017), the NWC resolved that the Deputy National Chairman (North) His Excellency, Amb. Umar Ililya Damagum assumes the National Chairmanship of our Party in acting capacity with effect from today, Tuesday, March 28, 2023.”
Meanwhile, the PDP National Working Committee has urged all leaders, critical stakeholders, teeming members and supporters of the Party to remain calm and united at the time.
