The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has rejected the recent judgment of the Court of Appeal which invalidated the party’s November 2025 National Convention.

This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of an Expanded Emergency Meeting of the Board held on Tuesday, March 10, and Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

The communiqué was presented by the Chairman of the BoT, Senator Adolphus Wabara.

According to the Board, it “disagrees with the judgment of the Court of Appeal which pronounced an invalidation of the November 15–16, 2025 National Convention that produced the National Working Committee led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN).”

Awaiting Legal Advice

The BoT stated that it is currently awaiting legal advice from its lawyers on the way forward regarding the ruling.

The Board also expressed concern over what it described as avoidable leadership disputes and internal wrangling within the party.

It noted that such conflicts had resulted in damaging litigations with “consequential detrimental effect on the unity and smooth running of the PDP as the major opposition party in the country.”

Despite its disagreement with the ruling, the BoT said it would explore the opportunity for reconciliation provided by the Court of Appeal’s Ibadan Division.

Party Stability

The Board further acknowledged the aspirations of party members interested in contesting for various elective positions in the 2027 general election, stressing the need for stability within the party.

As the conscience and third highest leadership organ of the party, the BoT said it is determined to take immediate steps to reconcile all stakeholders, end internal disputes, and restore the party to good political health to enable it effectively participate in the 2027 elections.

Special Committee

To achieve this, the Board announced the constitution of a special committee that will immediately interface with legal teams and other stakeholders to foster reconciliation within the party.

The BoT also acknowledged what it described as growing support and solidarity from Nigerians, citing the ongoing nationwide electronic registration of members.

“Reports from the field indicate daily registration of members in their millions. The unprecedented surge into our party despite the challenges underscores the standing of the PDP as the party of choice for majority of Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections,” the communiqué stated.

The Board therefore called on all leaders and members of the party to set aside personal and group interests and unite for the overall interest of the party and the wellbeing of Nigerians.

It also commended the efforts of the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi State, and Seyi Makinde, Governor of Oyo State, for their commitment and steadfastness towards the party and the welfare of Nigerians.

In addition, the BoT announced the unanimous approval of the appointment of Babangida Aliyu as Secretary of the Board, in accordance with Section 32 of the party’s constitution as amended in 2017.
