The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has faulted the directive issued by the Acting National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagun, ordering the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, to resume office.
He stated his position in Abuja Nigeria’s capital during the inauguration of the newly constructed Interchange that linked Wole Soyinka Way (Arterial Road N20) to Murtala Mohammed Expressway.
The acting National Chairman of the party, Umar Damagum, has earlier in a news conference announced the reinstatement of Anyanwu as its National Secretary.
It could be also recall that the PDP Chieftains have met with the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, over the recent rejection of the commission on the request by the party to the commission to supervise it NEC meeting slated for 30th June 2025.
The party which has been in leadership crisis following the moved by stakeholders of the Party to remove it National Secretary from office, Sam Anyanwu citing his decision to contest the governorship primary of the party in Imo state prior to the 2023 general elections.
Giving it ruling on the matter before the supreme Court which is the Apex Court in the country, has affirmed Senator Sam Anyanwu as the authentic national secretary of the People’s Democratic party, PDP.
Commenting on the recent directive by the acting chairman directive, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr Nyesom Wike, who faulted the directive, argued that Anyanwu had been doing his work, stressing that it was wrong for the party chairman to ask him to resume.
According to him, “The National Secretary has been working and will continue to work. He doesn’t require anybody to direct him to resume work,”.
The minister, who attributed the development to ignorance of the law, said he would not be a party to those who shoot themselves on the foot.
