The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, the suspended National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and several other members over alleged anti-party activities.
The decision comes amid a wave of litigations, factional disputes, and internal tensions that have overshadowed preparations for the party’s National Convention taking place in Ibadan on Saturday, 15th, and Sunday, 16th November 2025.
Others expelled include former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, Kamaldeen Ajibade, Bature, Mao Ohuabunwa, factional Acting National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed, George Turner, Austin Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah, and Dan Orbih.
Convention with Call for Renewal
Addressing delegates at the convention’s opening session, Chairman of the National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) and Governor of Adamawa State, Umaru Fintiri, reflected on the party’s journey since its last national convention in October 2021, which he also chaired.
Fintiri reaffirmed the PDP’s foundational ideals, urging members to recommit to the values that have defined the party for decades.
“Today again, I am deeply bound to call our attention to the definition of what the Peoples Democratic Party stands for, a party founded on courage and democratic ideals to rescue Nigeria,” he said.
He noted that Nigerians continue to look to the PDP as a historic stabilising force and warned against abandoning the party’s core principles.
‘We Must Reinvent Ourselves,’ he said.
Acknowledging the internal crises that have plagued the PDP, Fintiri urged delegates to use the convention as a platform for rebuilding unity and restoring confidence in the party.
“We must agree that as a party, we have a huge responsibility to reinvent ourselves. Whatever bad that has happened to Nigeria over the past few years has also happened to our party,” he said.
He admitted that fractured commitment and weakened loyalty had left the PDP “disunited and disheartened,” but maintained that the party’s core remained strong.
“Some of us have left, yet some have remained. The soul of the party is still intact because men and women still believe in its rescue mission and its capacity to give Nigeria true democratic governance.”
Fintiri also extended an olive branch to former PDP members, urging them to return to the fold, insisting they would “find greater frustration outside the party than within.”

He emphasised the need for “fixed unity of purpose” as the PDP transitions into electing new national officers and reorganising its internal structure.
Fintiri concluded by noting that his responsibility as NCOC chairman was strictly procedural, oversight of the convention’s conduct, not the determination of its outcomes.
