Members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Governors’ Forum have restate their confidence in the judiciary to dispense judgment impartially.
Addressing the press after a meeting of the Forum at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in abuja Nigeria’s capital, Chairman of the Forum and Bauchi sate governor in North east Nigeria, Bala Mohammed, who read the communiquue said the Governors reviewed the recent judgments of the Court of Appeal concerning Governors of various States.
He said, “As a Forum, we once again re-state our overall confidence in the judiciary to do justice”.
Governor Mohammed said they “believe that the Supreme Court will do justice in the cases where we recorded temporary setbacks like Zamfara and Plateau States”.
He said the meeting also reviewed the off-season elections in Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo States.
He says, “We support the decision of INEC to investigate the allegation of existence of pre-filled result sheets even before elections started in some places to ensure the confidence of the people in the electoral process.
Bala Mohammed expressed the governors’ concern over the national economy and they are urgently requesting the Nigerian Government to prioritise the introduction of a new Revenue Allocation Formular that would give more money to States and Local Governments to enable them meet their increased responsibilities.
Answering questions on if the meeting is effective, Governor Mohammed said “It is effective and it gives us the chance to reconnect and discuss issues of national interest, we believe in Nigeria and our meeting helps us to address these issues”.
He noted that the presence of four Governors and three Deputy Governors was already a quorum which allows them to deliberate and reach binding agreements.
The PDP Governors’ Forum is meeting after the Court of Appeal ordered a re-run election in Zamfara State in north west Nigeria and sacked Plateau State governor in North central Nigeria, while it set aside the PDP electional Tribunal victory in Nasarawa State, in north entral Nigeria, giving victory to the APC.
The three cases are headed to the Supreme Court for final adjudication.
