The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF), under the chairmanship of Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi State, has congratulated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the occasion of its 27th anniversary.
In a statement issued by the Director General of the Forum, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, the governors extended warm felicitations to the leadership, members, and supporters of the party across Nigeria and beyond, describing the PDP as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s democratic journey since its formation on August 31, 1998.
The Forum recalled that the PDP emerged at a critical moment during Nigeria’s transition from military rule to democracy, offering hope for millions of Nigerians who yearned for civilian governance, economic reform, and social justice. The party’s landslide victory in the 1999 general elections, which brought former President Olusegun Obasanjo to power, ushered in a new democratic era marked by progressive leadership and institutional rebuilding.
The governors noted that the PDP steered Nigeria for 16 consecutive years, producing three presidents and implementing far-reaching reforms in telecommunications, banking, education, healthcare, and infrastructure. These efforts, they said, fostered economic stability, boosted employment and investment, enhanced workers’ welfare, and reduced poverty.
They further highlighted the party’s rotational leadership between North and South as a key factor in promoting national cohesion and inclusivity.
Even in opposition, the statement stressed, the PDP has remained a formidable force—delivering governance in states under its control, holding the federal government accountable, and championing citizens’ rights. Its strong representation in the National Assembly and across state governments, they said, demonstrates the party’s enduring connection with the Nigerian people.
While acknowledging the challenges of internal divisions, electoral losses and shifting political dynamics, the Forum praised the PDP’s resilience in reconciling differences within its ranks and consistently speaking out against insecurity and threats to national peace.
As the PDP marks its 27th anniversary, the governors urged the party to draw inspiration from its legacy and recommit to transparency, service, and integrity in shaping Nigeria’s future.
“Congratulations once again on this historic milestone,” the statement concluded.
