The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has inaugurated a new secretariat in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State south-south Nigeria.

The two-storey complex, which was formerly a popular hotel, is located along the well-known Mary Slessor Avenue just at the place utilized over the years as the first adjudication point during Carnival Calabar.

The ceremony also signalled the inauguration of the Cross River State Caretaker Committee led by the former deputy governor, Efiok Cobham.

Unveiling the complex, the National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus said that the party was poised to restore the freedom of Nigerian youths, which was taken away under the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the country.

Secondus said, “PDP is the party of the future .We are coming to reclaim and reposition Nigeria. We have the experience and are determined to restructure the country and hand it over to the youths.

“Nobody can stop Nigerian youths from having a voice including on social media whether Twitter, Instagram or Facebook. We are coming to restore the freedom of Nigerians especially the youths,” Secondu stressed.

He also described the inauguration as “a quit notice to Governor Ben Ayade. He should begin to pack his load and we also know that he is regretting joining the APC because more governors are joining the 14 PDP governors from the ruling APC.”

Also speaking, the former governor of Cross River State (1999-2007), Donald Duke told the excited crowd “I am back; I am back to my home. I did not go too far. No matter what the differences are that you have in a family when your house is leaking you must come back to find a solution and fix it.”

Some members of the Cross River House of Assembly such as Nelson Ofem representing Yakurr II state constituency, Friday Okpeche of Obubra and Fred Osim from Ikom I took turns to greet faithful.

Ofem stated, “what we have had in the last six years is nothing short of a fraud. But we are bold enough to say no more to the fraud, which has been on.”

In attendance were PDP chieftains such as Governors Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, the governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle and former governor of Anambra State and running to PDP presidential candidate, Peter Obias well as the former Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
