Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), says he will move the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs to the southern region if elected into office in the 2023 general election.

The former Vice President while speaking at a breakfast meeting with members of the business community in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital said relocating the ministry to any state of the Niger Delta Affairs will enhance the infrastructure development of the area.

The event was also to launch the “Recovery Nigeria” brand to Nigerians and give an opportunity to the business community to interact with Atiku Abubakar and Ifeanyi Okowa the PDP Vice Presidential candidate, to share their vision to rebuild, restore, and reform Nigeria.

“If I am elected, the ministry of Niger Delta will be in The Niger Delta I will make sure the ministry develops infrastructure, I will make sure educational institutions are fully developed and well-funded as well as their health institutions, so resource control is not the only issue about restructuring.”

Atiku said, “Whether it is Port Harcourt or any other place, the responsibility is to develop the infrastructure and human capital and so on of the Niger Delta”. Noting that billions of naira have been budgeted and allocated to the Niger Delta ministry since its creation from the administration of late President Umaru Yar’adua but that much of the money has gone into “private pockets”.

Women and Youth

Atiku reaffirmed his earlier commitment to make inclusion the hallmark of his administration from 2023 as he will enhance women and youth empowerment if elected as president “If we are serious about increased prosperity, we must increase empowerment of women” and that the Recovery Nigeria message must be taken to women and youth

“If we are to recover Nigeria from its current mess, we must begin that recovery from the demography that is most hit by administrative failure, which is the women and youth.

“The records are there to compare the performance of the PDP and the APC and the upcoming election should be a referendum on the performance. Nigerians have had a taste of the two parties, and I am not saying this for myself, but we should be proud of the records that the PDP offered,” Atiku added.

Vice Presidential candidate of the PDP Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa said winning the 2023 presidential election will afford Atiku and the PDP the opportunity to recover Nigeria and set it back on the path to greatness while strategic attention will be given to women and the girl child. “In Delta State, we have what we call the girl child empowerment scheme and I can confirm that since we started it our success rate has been so high unlike other programmes run in the past, we ensure that they are properly processed and we provide them with starter packs and continue with mentoring and as at the last time we did our analysis we had over 95 percent success rate”. He said.

He added that as a country and under an Atiku presidency there will be increased agricultural activities with focus on food processing.
