The main opposition Party in Nigeria, the People’s Democratic Party PDP, says it does not believe in visiting more hardship on the Nigerian people by increasing petroleum prices as being proposed by the ruling All Progressives Congress APC.
Speaking with newsmen in Abuja, the PDP National Chairman-elect, Dr Iyorchia Ayu said the people of Nigeria were already hard-pressed and there was so much hardship.
“If you are poor, you are not going to benefit from what is called petroleum subsidy”, Ayu said.
He assured Nigerians that when the PDP come back to power as a party, everything would be done to make sure that the massive sufferings that Nigerians were going through were addressed.
“if you increase the price of petroleum products today, with the kind of suffering that Nigerians are going through, it means that there will be enormous difficulty in transportation, food prices will escalate and they are already very high out there… you will find that crime rate will increase. Every single vice has escalated under the APC and so the APC government is trying to take us into the highest level of suffering and ultimately, taking Nigerians to a position of non existence”, Ayu added.
