Nigeria’s opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has fixed its long-awaited National Executive, NEC, Meeting, for 28 November 2024.

Reading a communique at the end of its consultative meeting in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state, northwest Nigeria stated that “The National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting originally slated for October 24, 2024, has been rescheduled to November 28, 2024.

“The postponement is to ensure that the party goes into the forthcoming Ondo gubernatorial elections of November 16, 2024 with the unity and strength demanded to unseat the floundering All Progressive Congress, APC government in the state,” he said.

Bala Mohammed who is the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum said unity was essential as the party faces attempts from different fronts to divide it.

The meeting called on all members to shun divisive utterances that could undermine ongoing efforts at strengthening the party to effectively play its role as the country’s main opposition, preparatory to taking over in 2027,” he said.

Prior to the commencement of the meeting Governor Bala Mohammed had said that the PDP would use its experiences since 1999 to make sure that they provide Nigerians with a very good platform to actualise their aspirations in 2027.

Mohammed announced that “Suspensions and counter suspensions among members of the National Working Committee is now behind them as the party is under the leadership of the Acting National Chairman Illiya Damagum”.
