On Wednesday, Senators of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP stormed out of the plenary session demanding President Muhammadu Buhari be removed from Office unless the Presidency addresses issues troubling the nation.

The PDP Senators, led by the Minority Leader, Philip Aduda, said the President has six weeks to address insecurity, among other challenges.

At the time of this report, the PDP Senators were meeting separately in the senate hearing room 1, leaving their APC counterparts in the chamber to go ahead with the day’s session.

MAJORITY LEADER’S EMERGENCE

Meanwhile, the governing party, All Progressives Congress, APC, has nominated the senator representing Sokoto East District in the National Assembly, Ibrahim Gobir as the new Leader of the Senate.

The President of the Senate, Dr. Ahmad Lawan, announced this on Wednesday at the start of the plenary around 1.20 pm after about two hours closed doors sessions by the lawmakers.

Senator Gobir replaced the former Senate Leader, Abdullahi Yahaya, representing Kebbi North District, who has since defected to the opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP, on the grounds of irreconcilable differences between him and the Kebbi State governor, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu, over the affairs of APC at the state level.

The new Leader resumed duty immediately after they announced his name, while the Senate President, who urged him to discharge his duties diligently congratulated him.
