The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has tasked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with the responsibility of guaranteeing credible, transparent, and hitch-free general elections in 2027.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, underscored that the survival of Nigeria’s democracy depends largely on the credibility of elections and the willingness of institutions to safeguard the will of the people.

Ologunagba stressed the need for a robust legal framework that makes the electronic transmission of results from polling units mandatory.

On the party’s internal preparations, Ologunagba assured Nigerians that the PDP is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring a successful national convention scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State, from November 15 to 16, 2025. He noted that the choice of Ibadan was deliberate, as the city holds historical significance for democratic struggles and provides a unifying atmosphere for the party.

The Publicity Secretary disclosed that the National Convention Organising Committee has already constituted 11 subcommittees to handle critical aspects such as logistics, accommodation, transportation, venue arrangements, security, media, publicity, accreditation, and welfare. This, he explained, is in line with the PDP’s tradition of thorough planning and inclusive participation.

He added that the zoning of national party offices, as approved by the National Executive Committee (NEC), is being strictly adhered to, while the sale of nomination forms for various positions has commenced at the party’s national secretariat. Aspirants are expected to purchase and return their forms within the stipulated time frame, ahead of screening and clearance.

Ologunagba reassured party members and supporters that the PDP remains committed to the principles of internal democracy, inclusiveness, and transparency. He described the forthcoming convention as a turning point for the PDP, which he said is positioning itself to reclaim power in the 2027 general elections.

According to him, “Nigerians expect INEC to deploy technology fully and ensure that results declared at the polling units are the same results transmitted to the collation centres. Anything short of that will not be acceptable.”

He further urged Nigerians to keep faith with the PDP, assuring them that the party is undergoing internal reforms and reconciliation to strengthen its structures across the six geopolitical zones.

With barely two months to the convention, preparations are said to be in top gear, as party leaders, governors, legislators, and other stakeholders continue to mobilise support for what the PDP describes as a “family reunion” that will set the tone for its 2027 campaign.
