The governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Kano State, Muhammad Wali says if elected, his administration will use the Public Private Partnership, PPP policy to boost the economy of the state.

Walk said he would also restore the lost glory of Kano as the second biggest commercial city in Nigeria.

He said the mantra of his administration, if elected, would be on programme implementation, sustainability and wealth creation, which must attain 70%/before the end of the tenure.

During a parley with Joutnalists, Wali said Kano state was a private sector driven economy that needed enabling environment especially infrastructures to thrive at maximum level.

Our team is prepared to build the economy. We believe in Public Private Partnership.  Kano is private sector driven. Most of our Kano citizens are very industrious,  and we need to encourage them. All they need is support from government.

“Like China, Kano will become economically indpenedent. we will encourage and promote   local/indigenous  small scale businesses. Aftwards, they can even grow to become multinational companies.

“Each local government will develop in line with where it has comparative advantage to create wealth and generate revenue.

“Also, liike Malysia, we will ensure that priority is given to indeginous producers, no matter the pressure from.national or international bodies to do otherwise.

“We will introduce trade protectionism, we can not allow everything to be  brought into Kano, especially what we produce. For example we will increase taxes on textile materials to discourage those bringing them in because we have the factories here,” he explaimed.

Growth Through FDI

He said the administration would equally encourage economic growth in the state through Foreign  Direct Investment, FDI, including attracting donor agencies, Build Operate and Transfer, BOT, policy as well as reformed Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, system.

“We must generate revenue for loans collected to execute any project to reduce debt burden, we must create value as spending without corresponding benefit is not good,” he said.

According to him, Kano is experiencing tinfrastructural decay, especially roads because of the increasing population in the urban areas, which will be discouraged by his administration

we need to expand and build infrastractural facilities as well as  industries in local areas, where you have competitive opportunities with both human and natural resources. These will drastically reduce rural -Urban drift or migration that is exerting pressure on infrastructural facilities,” Wali stated.

Social Service Reform

He said the team, when elected,  would use the Social Service Reforms ‘SSR,  strategy in re-orientating and re-focusing mindset of the people in order to achieve the much needed success.

“Square pegs must be put in square holes. We will make the size of government more efficient without sacking people from their jobs,” he said

He also promised to  make education in the state need driven by ensuring quality and focused teachings whose outputs will be needed in the working environment of Kano rather than just obtaining certificates.

“In our educational plan, we would want to have more Engineers than administrators because Kano is a manufacturing state.

On politics, Wali said the PDP was waxing stronger in Kano state as more people are coming into the fold of the party because of its principles of equity and justice.

He said, “we are rebuilding our party,  and we are waxing stronger everyday with the hope to win the 2023 elections despite pockets of challenges.

“In Kano PDP today,  there is equity.  We come together on a roundtable, we argue issues,  but at the end of the day,  everybody is carried along. It is based on these principles that Senator Ibrahim Shekarau recently returned to the party.

“As long as you are willing to come to promote the interest of the party,  you are welcome.

Wali, who was Commissioner for Water Resources for two and half years under  Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s administration, resigned his position  to actualise his gubernatorial ambition under the PDP.
