PDP wins 2 Senatorial seats in Akwa-Ibom

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Akwa-Ibom State Southern Nigeria has announced the results of the 3 senatorial seats in the state, North East, North west and Akwa-Ibom south senatorial districts.

The commission declared Bassey Anieka Etim of the people’s Democratic Party winner of Akwa-Ibom state north East senatorial District.

Announcing the results on Monday at the Uyo senatorial district collation centre, INEC returning officer Professor Enoidem Usoro of the university of uyo declared the candidate of PDP and speaker of Akwa-Ibom House of Assembly Mr. Aniekan Bassey winner with 98,634 votes.

The candidate of the All progressive congress (APC) Mr. Ukpong Emayak Nkanga polled 43,204, Ekpenyong Leo Enobong of Labour Party scored 20,548, Akpabio Usenobong Ottu of YPP had 37,679 votes and Sunday Etim Umohren of NNPP 5,951 votes.

Professor Usoro indicated that the election was contested and the winner satisfied all the requirements of the law.

“I, Professor Enoidem Usoro, hereby certify that I am the returning officer for the 2023 election for the Akwa-Ibom North East held on Feb. 25, 2023.

I then declared that Bassey, Aniekan Etim, having satisfied all the requirements of the law, is hereby declared winner and returned elected,” Usoro said.

In Akwa-Ibom North West senatorial district Senator Godswill Akpabio of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared winner by INEC returning officer, Prof Anthony Udoh,

Proffesor Udoh announced Sen. Godswill Akpabio of APC and former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs winner of the senatorial seat with 115, 401 votes.  Mr Emmanuel Enoidem of the PDP polled 69, 838 votes.

The candidate of YPP Emmanuel Ekon scored 6,841 votes while Okpongete Nseobong of LP scored 3, 401 votes.

Declaring the results, Udoh said Sen. Akpabio former Governor of Akwa-Ibom State satisfied all conditions to be declared the winner with 115,401 votes.

Meanwhile in Akwa Ibom south senatorial districts,  INEC returning officer professor Effanga Effanga of the university of Uyo declared the candidate of the PDP winner.

Prof. Effanga who announced the results at the collation centre in Eket, said the election was contested Ekong Samson of PDP emerged winner with  79,327 votes followed by Mr Martyns Udo-Inyang of All Progressive Congress (APC) who scored 33, 256 votes.

He noted that 12 political parties contested for the Federal Constituency seats, which comprises of 12 Local Government Areas in the state.
