PDP’s Umo Eno Wins Akwa Ibom Governorship Election

Umo Eno of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has been declared the winner of the Governorship election in Akwa Ibom.

Eno polled 354,348 votes to defeat his closest rival, Senator Bassey Albert of the Young Peoples Progressive Party YPP who polled 136,262 votes in the polls held on March 18th.

Mr Eno was declared the winner on Sunday by Emmanuel Adigio, a professor and Returning Officer for the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Uyo, the state capital.

Mr Eno won in 29 of the 31 Local Government Areas in the state.

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Akanimo Udofia, came third with 129,602 votes while the candidates of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP scored 12,509 and Labour Party, LP got 4,746 votes.

Professor Adigio gave the total number of registered voters in the state as 2,357,418 out of which 657,959 representing about a quarter were accredited for the exercise.

He also gave the total valid votes cast as 656,422 out of which 12,342 were rejected votes while 644,080 were valid votes

All party agents were on grount the collation centre from the 18 accredited political parties that contested in the Governorship election.

Voice of Nigeria reports that party Agents from the All Progressive Congress, APC and the Young People Progressive Party, YPP refused to sign the INEC result sheet citing irregularities and discrepancies in the collation of thsameme results in certain areas.

The party agents concerned declared their intentions to seek redress in the court.

At a little ove6 pmpm local time the party agent of the PDP, Uwem Okoko signed the official result sheet presented by INEC which declared Umo Eno of the PDP candidate, the winner of the 2023 Gubernatorial elections in the state.
