A Christian Cleric and National President of the Peace Revival and Reconciliation Foundation of Nigeria, Yohanna Buru says peace education among youths is crucial to combat ethnic conflicts in communities across the country
The cleric who launched an ongoing campaign on empowering youths to spearhead Peace-building initiatives in local communities said the effort seeks to enhance social cohesion and unity in multi-ethnic areas.
He emphasized the importance of tolerance in fostering understanding among different faith-based organizations.
The Cleric said that dialogue and peace education can significantly reduce ethnic violence.
To amplify the message, Buru advocated for robust media campaigns. encouraging the use of social media, radio, television, and print to promote peace and cultural understanding, Stressing that, dialogue plays a significant roles in resolving conflicts while spreading peace messages through media organizations.
He however called on the community leaders and influencers to champion peace initiatives and facilitate discussions within their communities, reinforcing the message of peaceful coexistence.
He added that I have been utilizing places of worship and cultural organizations to promote interfaith dialogue and cultural exchange programs cantered on peace education.
Pastor Buru then urged community members to address the root causes of ethnic conflicts through comprehensive education and constructive Dialogue
‘the campaign which started last week aims to establish a foundation for lasting peace and stability, recognizing that peace requires more than mere conflict resolution; it demands a transformative approach that engages and empowers individuals at all societal levels.
“The foundation envisions a future characterized by mutual respect, understanding, and harmony, where dialogue and peace education lay the groundwork for resilient communities capable of overcoming challenges together.”
Furthermore, Buru announced the launch of youth-led initiatives designed to encourage young people to actively participate in peace-building efforts. The initiatives include leadership training, community events, and campaigns promoting tolerance and reconciliation.
While noted that, as these efforts unfold, the foundation remains committed to breaking the cycle of violence and prejudice, working toward a brighter, and more inclusive future for all. Buru said
One of the youth leaders from Barnawa Kaduna South, Gambo Abdullah , who said peace is all our mission and hence the need to join hands together toward making Kaduna State a better for all called on youths across the state to shun all forms of violence
Gambo then appealed to the Kaduna state governor to empower youths with skill acquisition so as to help in the fight against poverty, and idleness, while creating massive job opportunities.
