Members of the Network of women with Disabilities,NWD, are mourning the passing of President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who passed away on July 13, 2025, in a London clinic.

Lois Auta says the association takes a moment to reflect on his remarkable life and service to Nigeria.
” As a former military head of state and President, Buhari left an indelible mark on our nation’s history. His commitment to anti-corruption, economic stabilization, and national security will be remembered for generations to come.
” One of his notable achievements was the signing of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018, which prohibits all forms of discrimination against persons with disabilities. This law establishes a National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, headed by an Executive Secretary, to ensure equal rights and opportunities for persons with disabilities”. Auta said.
She also reflected on the key Provisions of the Disability Law signed by former President Buhari.
” Prohibition of Discrimination The law prohibits discrimination in public transportation facilities, seaports, railways, and airport facilities, ensuring equal access for persons with disabilities.
” Accessibility Requirements*: Public buildings, structures, and automobiles must be modified to be accessible and usable by persons with disabilities within a five-year transitional period.
” Employment Opportunities*: Public organizations are required to reserve at least 5% of employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.
” Penalties for Non-Compliance*: The law imposes fines and imprisonment for individuals and corporate bodies that violate its provisions”. She pointed out.
She said that the association offers its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and Nigerians who were touched by his leadership.
” We pray that Allah grants him Aljannatul Firdaus and comforts his loved ones during this difficult time.
” May his legacy continue to inspire us to build a better Nigeria”. Auta added.
