The Spokesman of the Labour Party (LP) Presidential Campaign Council, Dr. Tanko Yunusa, says his party’s Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, is pan-Nigerian and not a regional candidate.
Dr. Tanko said this in a statement made available to journalists, adding that “Mr. Peter Obi is today the darling of Nigerian youths nationwide, has strong supporters in all geopolitical zones – north, west and east.”
The Spokesman of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council issued the statement in response to that of Senator Dino Melaye, spokesman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council, which described Mr. Peter Obi as a regional candidate.
“The Nigerian patriots will reward Mr. Peter Obi with votes for transforming the imagination of Nigerian youths from despair, despondency and hopelessness to a hopeful and prosperous country,” said the Labour Party’s spokesman.
It could be recalled that the spokesman of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Dino Melaye, dubbed Obi a regional candidate, saying that “there is no regional champion that has ever been president in this country.”
Dr. Tanko thanked the PDP for acknowledging Obi’s character, competence and strong health.
He appealed to the PDP Campaign Council to leave Obi alone and rather face the All Progressives Congress (APC), which he dsecribed as the PDP’s ‘partner in foul language campaign’.
“The Labour Party Presidential Candidate has sworn not to use foul and intemperate language on any presidential candidate no matter the provocation.
“Instead, his focus is on how best to transform the country from consumption to production,” Dr. Tanko emphasized.
