A philanthropist, Alhaji Adamu Jingi, has advised youths to embrace agriculture for self-reliance and guaranteed sustainable source of income.

Jingi, who gave the advice in a chart with newsmen on Sunday in Yola, described agriculture as a “lucrative business” with promising returns on investment.

He said that considering the availability of fertile land for agricultural production in the state, the youths could venture into food and cash crops production.

This, according to him, will reduce the current pressure on white-collar jobs and contribute to job creation and food security in Adamawa and the country.

He called on governments at all levels to provide farmers with inputs and other necessary farm equipment.

Increased food production

He explained that such support would attract youth to embrace agriculture as a means of livelihood, thereby, increasing food production and ensuring food security.

The philanthropist also appealed to the state government to ensure lasting peace between farmers and herders, to avert conflicts that could lead to destruction of crops and loss of cattle.

Also, to sustain the desirable peace, farmers must desist from farming on cattle routes while herders equally need to stop driving their flocks into peoples’ farms,” he warned.

Jingi commended Gov. Ahmadu Fintri for the barn on cutting down of trees for charcoal production in the state.

According to him, the move will go a long way in mitigating climate change and other environmental degradation due to deforestation and erosion in the communities.
