Phoenix University Agwada to Construct Solar Plant for Community Electricity

Phoenix University Agwada, located in Nasarawa State, has announced plans to construct a solar-powered plant to provide electricity to the university’s immediate community. The project aims to enhance the living standards of residents around the institution.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Bala, disclosed this during a pre-matriculation press briefing held at the university’s Senate Building in Agwada, Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
He stated that the university is set to matriculate its first cohort of 260 students into various academic programmes.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, approximately 150 students have successfully registered, with others still completing the registration process.
“The university was allocated an admission quota of 500 for the 2024/2025 admission cycle. Out of a total of 342 candidates who applied, about 260 met all the requisite criteria and were admitted. Lectures have since commenced,” he noted.

Prof. Bala reiterated that, as part of its mandate, the university is planning to construct a solar-powered plant to supply electricity to the surrounding community, thereby improving the residents’ quality of life.
He also highlighted that a sustainable welfare package has been put in place for the university staff to ensure optimal service delivery.
Prof. Bala expressed his gratitude to the Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, for his unwavering support in facilitating the commencement of academic activities at the university.
During the matriculation ceremony, the university will confer an honorary degree on renowned business mogul and philanthropist Dr Muhammadu Indimi, OFR, who will also be installed as the Chancellor of Phoenix University Agwada. He will receive the Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters (DHLitts) Honoris Causa.
