Plateau State Earmarks N12bn of 2024 Budget for Agriculture
The Plateau State government has earmarked the sum of N12bn of 2024 budget to the State Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in order to intervene in the area of farming inputs and procurement of equipment, among others.
The State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Chrysanthus Dawam disclosed this during the 2024 Budget Breakdown held at the Cabinet Office in Jos.
He revealed that the amount is for the provision of capital expenditure for the Ministry, the Plateau Agricultural Development Project, PADP, Plateau Agricultural Mechanization Service Company and the State College of Agriculture.
According to Dawam, the sum of N15,988,944,484.00 representing 10.48% of the total budget is allocated to the Water, Sanitation and Energy subsector to enable the government to execute water-related projects in the State.
His words: “The government desires to address the current security challenges as well as the infrastructural and human capital development deficit within available resources. To ensure that government revenue is judiciously managed, the government has mandated all revenue-generating MDAs to synergize and ensure that accountability and transparency are observed in all the processes.
“The budget has a size of N314,855,148,553.00 only, it consists of a recurrent estimate of N162,325,733,561.00 only representing 51.55% and capital estimate of N152,529,414,992.00 only representing 48.44% of the total budget size.
“The administrative sector has N33,381,651,445.00, the economic sector has N93,066,272,180.00, Law and Justice sector has N7,025,607,600.00 and the social sector has N19,055,883,767.00.”
Dawam then charged all Ministries, Departments Agencies, and MDAs to adhere to the basic principles of budget implementation and call on the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning for guidance whenever the need arises and urged stakeholders including Civil Society Organizations, and CSOs to monitor and assess the projects to ensure that projects are executed based on specifications.
