Troops of 3 Division and Operation SAFE HAVEN have recorded a significant breakthrough in their fight against criminal elements in Plateau State, following a successful intelligence-led operation along the Plateau-Taraba border.

Acting on credible intelligence about a planned bandit attack on communities in Kampani Zurak, Wase Local Government Area (LGA), troops launched a decisive operation targeting the criminals’ base at Dutsen Zaki High Ground in Wase LGA.

According to Major Samson Zhakom, Media Information Officer for Operation SAFE HAVEN, in a statement, the troops engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle, neutralizing one, while others fled with gunshot wounds.

“During the operation, the troops also rescued a kidnapped victim, 24-year-old Auwalu Isa, who had been abducted from Kampani Zurak. He has since been debriefed and reunited with his family, while follow-up operations are ongoing to track down the fleeing assailants”. He said

In a related development, major Zhakom stated that, the troops conducted another operation in Pandam Forest, Qua’an Pan LGA, based on intelligence suggesting that fleeing bandits had hidden weapons in the area due to sustained military pressure from Operation LAFIYAN JAMA’A.

“The troops uncovered a freshly dug spot in the forest which, upon excavation, revealed one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, and 30 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, all carefully concealed. The recovered weapons and ammunition are currently in military custody for further investigation and necessary action even as Troops continue to maintain a strong presence in the area to uncover any additional arms or hideouts”. He added.

These operations underscore the commitment of Operation SAFE HAVEN to dismantling criminal networks and safeguarding the lives and property of citizens across its Joint Operations Area
