Officers of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested two ring leaders of the cult group in the Ihiala local government area of the state; they also recovered two AK-47 rifles stolen from two police formations years ago.
In a special operation spearheaded by the Police Crack Squad deployed to Ihiala by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Aderemi Adeoye, to provide security for the people of Ihiala during and after the festive period, one Chitana Oha, a male 25 years old, was arrested.
The statement released and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga in Awka on Monday revealed that also nabbed was one Emmanuel Ifeanyi Okonkwo, a male, 24 years old.
Mr Ikenga noted that both suspects were arrested at their hideout at Okija, within the same local government area.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Adeoye, who vowed to end the cult groups in Ihiala the same way he stamped out the menace in Awka, has directed the Crack Squad to go all out against the cultists and clip their wings.
He assured members of the public that their security would continue to be the top priority of the command.
Meanwhile, in a related development, Anambra State Police Command has recovered two AK-47 rifles stolen from two police formations years ago.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, one of the rifles was stolen when Zone 13 Headquarters, Ukpo, was attacked by unknown gunmen in 2021.
“The second rifle was stolen from Area Command Headquarters, Ogidi, early last year when the formation was attacked by insurgents.
“Painstaking intelligence gathering by undercover operatives led to the uncovering of a location where the arms were hidden in Nnobi, Idemili South Local Government Area of the State.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, who commended the operatives for their diligence, urged them not to relent until perpetrators of the attacks that claimed police lives are brought to justice.”
CP Adeoye assured the team that every logistical support they required would be provided until the objectives were achieved.
