Police arrest suspected bomb manufacturer in Taraba state

The Taraba State Police Command has arrested a suspected bomb manufacturer in Gassol Local Government Area of the State.

The suspect, identified as Bala Usman ‘M’ was arrested in Gunduma Village, via Mutum Biyu town during a foiled attempt to kill one Usman Yaki, ‘M’, an indigene of the town.

While parading the suspect, at the Taraba State Police Command, Jalingo, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Sokoya, said that on the 9th day of June, 2022 at about 2100hrs, the suspect, Usman ‘M’ of Tella Town, Gassol Local Government Area, armed himself with pistol scorpion, loaded with seven rounds of live ammunition and went to the house of one Usman Yaki ‘M’ of Gunduma Village and attempted to kill him.

 

“The suspect fired one round of live ammunition which alerted the Police who quickly swung into action in collaboration with the Vigilante.

 

“The quick response of the operatives’ yielded positive result as the suspect was subdued and arrested.

 

“During the course of investigation, the suspect confessed that he is a member of Boko Haram, armed robbery and kidnapping syndicate that terrorized Niger, Kogi and Taraba States.

 

The Police Commissioner revealed that during a search in the premises of the suspect at Tella town, items suspected to be components for the manufacturing of bombs, buried in the ground within the house were recovered. They include: 199 pieces of 7. 6mm live ammunition, 558 assault live ammunition, and one pistol breech No. CZ, 999 scorpion with six (6) rounds of live ammunition, twenty plastic bottles of sodium azide acid, 8 plastic bottles of kermi acid, 27 plastic bottles of locally made bomb, 3 face mask, 3 pull over jackets, a bunch of cable wire, 3 lighters, 2 empty magazines of AK 47 rifle and an assault rifle.
