Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, IGP, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, says he is committed to changing the narratives of the Police Force in the country so as to achieve its mandate and the desired dream of all officers and men of the Force.
The IGP made the commitment when he visited the Adamawa Command of the Police headquarters to commiserate with the command over the death of one of its best, Inspector Jacob Daniel who lost his life during an attack by some military officers some days ago.
His visit was also to share his vision of policing with the officers and to ask them to key into this vision on how important he needs their support and cooperation to have the police force of their dreams in Nigeria.
The police Boss while appreciating the good job and sacrifices of the Adamawa State Command revealed that the policing vision of this administration is to have a Police force that is professionally competent, service driven, rule of law compliant and citizen friendly.
“Police force that can support the government towards economic recovery and growth as well as social integration development of Nigeria. The police force that will serve the people excellently, deliver effectively on its mandates, so well positioned, equipped to respond adequately and appropriately to the dynamics and crimes in our communities with your cooperation and commitment we will get that police force’’, he emphasized.
“I also came here today to listen to you. I will not only address you but to hear from you on issues you want to raise with the IGP and I will answer all your questions’’. The IGP added.
He exposed to the Police officers and men that the present government is passionate and committed to the welfare of the police in the country.
‘’But if we want good welfare, we want to be well equipped, we want to double your manpower, we want you to have everything you need to do your job’’. The Police said
He however insisted that members of the police must also be committed to good behavior, change their negative attitude, and see themselves as servants of the people which will also get them support and unprecedented help from the people.
Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police condemned the attack by some unstable soldiers on the Police headquarters in Adamawa State that led to the death of Inspector Jacob Daniel who was on duty as the quota guide of the headquarters.
He described the manner of the attack as that of terrorists and Boko Haram activities.
The IGP while regretting the death of Inspector Jacob Daniel said he was an excellent officer, well-behaved and trusted by his superior and always committed to his duty.
He said the manner in which he was murdered has escalated to the highest authority and justice will be delivered.
Meanwhile, he assured the family that the Police Force would stand by them.
