The Delta State Police Command has recovered several arms and ammunition including explosives devices during the months of September and October 2023 in the course of patrolling, conducting rescue operations, and foiling several incidences of kidnappings and armed robberies.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State command, Bright Edafe in a statement said the police was committed to providing the people with a secure and peaceful environment through the rest of the year.
Edafe stated; “In line with the recent directive of the Acting Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetoken on the need to sustain the tempo in the fight against crime and criminality, the Commissioner for Police, Wale Abass is reassuring the people of the command’s commitment to do all that it takes to eradicate crime in the State.”
According to him, the command recently recovered one AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and forty-one rounds of 7.62MM ammunition, a locally made double barrel gun from the raid of the hideout of gang members also referred to as cultists.
He also stated, “On Wednesday, the 18th of October 2023 at about 1530hrs during a stop and search operations, a patrol team attached to the Ofuoma division at Ughelli North local government area intercepted a Toyota Corolla Vehicle and recovered one cut-to-size single barrel gun; one cut-to-size double barrel gun; one single barrel gun; one machete; and a sack containing a large portion of substances suspected to be crystal meth (ICE), cocaines, and thirteen wraps of Indian hemp.”
Edafe stated, “The Delta State Police Commissioner, Mr. Wale Abass has reiterated the command’s determination to continue its efforts to detect and fish out criminal elements. The commissioner has assured of increased operations to enhance the takedowns of unrepentant criminals during this period.”
The Police Commissioner warned residents, particularly the youths on the dangers of jungle justice and urged them to learn always to lean on constituted law enforcement agencies in their pursuit of justice.
He sternly warned that the wrath of the law will be meted on anyone, who incites a mob action against any citizen of the country.
