Police trains Personnel on Community Policing in 4 States

The Nigerian Police Force has commenced training of personnel in Sokoto, Jigawa, Kebbi and Zamfara States on effective implementation of Community Policing

Declaring the training open at Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, said community policing is one of the most effective policing strategies that has contributed greatly to the success of the activities of the Nigeria police over the years.

The IGP who was represented by the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Intelligence, AIG Habu Ahmadu Sani, said the training was designed to remodel the implementation of community policing as approved by the Nigerian government.

He said the intervention was aimed at building the capacity of personnel and also fine-tuning strategies that would strengthen the relationship between the police and members of the public towards ensuring adequate security of the lives and property of citizens.

He added that community policing is a way to go especially in the area of mitigating the current security challenges in the country.

According to him, community policing would help to bridge the gap, especially in the area of intelligence and information sharing between police and members of the community.

He noted that the stakeholders after the training would operate under police divisions and by the use of appropriate policy guidelines.

Sani said the participants would be properly guided on the laws underline the process to ensure proper implementation of the policing.

The AIG urged the participants to use the opportunity and learn more about community policy for the overall security of the country.

The Sokoto State Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Useni Gumel, who welcomed the participants from four states also congratulated the Nigerian Police Department of Planning for successfully organising the training.

He said the training was organised to enhance the experience of personnel and stakeholders of community policing.

Gumel also challenged the participants to use the avenue to share knowledge and experience for the effective implementation of the programme.

The Sokoto State Police Command hosted four states in the North-Western Geopolitical zone with participants consisting of Police focal officers, Community Policing Committee members and Special Police Constabulary from Sokoto, Jigawa, Kebbi and Zamfara states.
