The Nigeria Police Force has neutralized a gang of kidnappers in Abraka, a suburban community near Asaba, the capital of Delta State in south-south Nigeria.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP Bright Edafe indicated that operatives of the Abraka police station while on routine patrol along Campus Three road in Ethiope East local government area.
Edafe indicated that the patrol team led by the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Mr. Fabian Ayameh demobilized the gang of four suspect after a gun duel at a fuel station in Abraka.
He stated, “While on routine patrol along campus III road Abraka, Ethiope East LGA, the patrol team were alerted of a kidnap incident at a filling station in Abraka by a gang of four armed men operating in a silver coloured Lexus SUV.
“The team swiftly mobilized and went on the trail of the suspects, who on noticing that the policemen were closing in on them, fired gunshots while trying to escape, and the police responded bravely. Due to the superior firepower of the police, their operational vehicle was successfully demobilized, which made the hoodlums to abandon the victim.
“The suspects, in a bid to escape, fired several gunshots, but the combat ready policemen engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel and successfully neutralized one of them, arrested another with serious gunshot wounds, while two others escaped.
“We recovered one AK 47 rifle with breech no 06571 without magazine. The victim, who was kidnapped at the filling station has since been reunited with his family. Manhunt for the other fleeing suspect is ongoing,” Edafe further indicated.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, the Police Commissioner, Delta State Police Command, Mr. Wale Abass commended the DPO of Abraka station and his men for the courage and feat achieved, urging them to sustain the tempo.
He assured residents of the command’s commitment to sustain peace and security in the state, while warning criminals to desist from perpetuating illegalities or relocate from the state as anyone caught will be prosecuted in line with the rule of law.
