Police Officers Wives Empower Women in Anambra State

The Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) has empowered a total of 75 Women trained in various skills with starter packs in Anambra state.

 

Presenting the items to the Beneficiaries during the inaugural graduation ceremony held at POWA Skill Acquisition Centre, Ukpo near Awka, the capital of the state, the National President of the Association, Mrs Elizabeth Egbetokun, urged them to utilise the items for their economic sustainability.

 

Mrs Egbetokun, who is also the wife of the Inspector General of Police, underscored the importance of positive engagement to fight poverty and idleness and commended them for their exceptional accomplishments.

The State Police Commissioner, Aderemi Adeoye, in his remarks, pledged the continuous support of the Command to the association and extolled the National President of the association for her vision of creating empowerment opportunities for women.

 

He appreciated some philanthropists like Prince Arthur Eze, Sir Emeka Offor and people from the host communities of Ukpo and Ukwulu for their tremendous financial and material support to the association.

 

Earlier in her welcome address, the State Chairperson of the association, Mrs Bolanle Adeoye, lauded the National President of the association for providing a platform for empowerment and support services for economic liberation.

 

Mrs Adeoye, who is also the wife of the State Commissioner of Police, said the inaugural training was designed to equip the women to be productive to earn income for their families.

 

“These women make me proud. Shortly after the training, I could see the quality and well-packaged products that compete with similar products in the markets today. l have used their perfumes, disinfectants, and cleaning agents”

 

Items distributed to the beneficiaries drawn from members of the association, widows of their fallen heroes and others from host communities Ukpo and Ukwulu include Generators, Hair Dryers, Grinding machines, Sewing machines and cosmetics production materials.

 

The high point of the event was the presentation of starter packs to the beneficiaries, a cash reward of N250,000 to the three best trainees as well as N500,000 to the best trainer in fulfillment of the State Commissioner of Police pledge.

The National President of the Association and her entourage later paid a courtesy Call on the Traditional Ruler of Umueri Community, Anambra East Local Government Area of the State, Igwe Benneth Emeka.
