Police Recovers over 4000 Ammunition in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Police Command has intercepted a major cache of arms and ammunition, recovering 4,264 live rounds across the 13 local government areas of the state.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Mohammed-Jauro, who paraded the exhibits at the Command Headquarters in Lafia, said the police remained resolute in flushing out criminal elements from the state.

He disclosed that nine suspects were arrested for offences ranging from possession of prohibited firearms to impersonation and being in possession of a stolen vehicle.

According to him, “On 7th September 2025 at about 1830hrs, based on credible intelligence that suspected gun runners alleged to be from Benue State were sighted in a forest bordering Kadarko, Keana Local Government Area, offloading arms and ammunition for onward distribution to their criminal partners, the Commissioner of Police personally led a team of the operatives to the location.”

He said that, “On sighting the operatives, the suspects abandoned their luggage and fled deep into the forest. A search of the scene led to the recovery of: four AK-49 rifles, three AK-47 rifles, one G3 rifle, one Sub-Machine Gun (SMG), and eleven magazines. Others are: four thousand, forty-six rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, eleven rounds of 5.5 mm ammunition, one hundred and thirty-two rounds of 38 mm ammunition, and seventy-five cartridges.”

For his part, CP Shetima Mohammed-Jauro urged residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and supportive of security agencies by providing timely information that could help prevent crime and safeguard lives and property.
