The Nigerian police command in Niger State North Central Nigeria has refuted the alleged killing of 37 people by bandits in Nakundna and Wurukuchi  Communities in Shiroro local government area of Niger state.

A Statement by  DSP Wasiu Abiodun, The Police Command PRO in Niger State on Thursday,  mentioned that the alleged killing was untrue.

The attention of Niger State Police Command has been drawn to a publication in the Sun news online of 12th January, 2022 and some national dailies indicating that thirty-seven 37  persons were killed in Nakundna and Wurukuchi communities, Shiroro LGA which is unfounded, baseless, and untrue,” DSP abiodun said.

According  to DSP abiodun, 13 persons

harvesting crops in their farm at Nakundna village near Kaure in Shiroro LGA were actually killed by suspected bandits/terrorists.

“Tactical teams were however drafted to the scene led by Area Commander, Shiroro as details of the incident were not immediately available due to the  rough terrain and lack of communication network in the area”.

The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command CP Monday Bala Kuryas, who  condoles with  the families of the victims, admonished the media  in the state   to always  avoid rushing to press without adequate verification.

He  however  reassured residents that the Police and other security agencies would not relent in the ongoing onslaught against banditry and other criminality in the State.
