He said the sixteen year old girl was a student in Numan, who boarded a vehicle, which apparently belonged to the kidnappers.
Mr. Iwar said after escaping from the clutches of the kidnappers, she was later rescued by the police, who got some useful information from her.
The Police Commissioner however said some details of the operations could not be revealed because the operation was still ongoing.
Mr. Iwar however said the officers of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squard had also recovered weapons from the kidnappers.
“We were able to mount a massive operation within the area. The area is a very hilly area, it’s a bush. We were able to carry out this massive operation that led to the death of three of the kidnappers and the recovery of these weapons as you see here. There are bullets and three riffles that we recovered here,” Mr.Iwar said.
He said the teenager helped them with useful information, which led them to locate the whereabouts of the criminals.
Mr. Iwar said one of the kidnappers, who was apprehended, died in custody from gun wounds sustained during the operation.
He however could not establish whether the gang was responsible for the death of a lecturer at the Federal University of Kashere some weeks ago, because investigations and the massive operation were still being carried out.
Mr. Iwar said the public would be notified of any development.
The Gombe State Police Commissioner urged people of the state to go about their normal business because the police command in the state was doing everything possible to guarantee the safety of lives and property.
