The Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) has empowered men of the Nigeria Police Force to be better at policing and securing the nation.

At the opening ceremony of the second phase of the NPTF Police training Programme on Monday in Abuja, the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Mr. Mohammed Sheidu said the capacity training’s ultimate goal is for safety and security.

He said Police is not just a job but a calling. It is about service, integrity, and the courage to protect the rights and freedoms of all Nigerians, hence the utmost need for better training to capacity building.

“In today’s world, the challenges we face as law enforcement are evolving rapidly. From tackling organized crime to navigating the complexities of community policing, it is clear that we must constantly equip ourselves with the knowledge, tools, and skills needed to stay ahead. This is where the importance of training comes in.”

The Executive Secretary (ES) said the programme was not just about equipping the men with technical skills, but also nurturing leadership, critical thinking, and resilience.

“These are qualities that will help each one of you rise to the demands of modern-day policing and public safety.”

Mr. Sheidu acknowledged the dedication of the men of the Police Force to the safety of Nigerians.
“The fact that you are here speaks volumes about your commitment to improving your craft, to making Nigeria a safer place for all. It is not easy to serve in law enforcement, but it is necessary. And for that, I commend each of you.”

The ES said the Nigeria Police Trust Fund understands that the most valuable asset is not the equipment or facilities provided, but the officers in the field.

“You are the frontline of security in our nation. You are the ones who give the Nigerian public the confidence to go about their daily lives with the assurance that they are protected.

“It is against this backdrop that we want to reassure you that we are committed to ensuring that you have the support and resources you need to succeed in your duties.”

The ES then urged the officers all to take full advantage of the opportunities the training presents.

“Use this time to learn, to ask questions, to collaborate with your colleagues, and to push yourselves beyond your limits. You are here because we believe in your potential, and I have no doubt that with the right guidance, you will rise to the occasion.”

Recalled that 100 officers were trained in the first phase, while 50 made it in the second phase.
