A coalition of former political office holders in Kogi State say they intend to generate at least one million votes for the Presidential Candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Bola Tinubu in the forthcoming general election in Nigeria.
The Coalition of past political appointees, from the first governor of Kogi state to the present political dispensation are grassroots mobilisers.
The Chairman of the Coalition, Abdulmumin Sadik, told newsmen in Abuja Nigeria’s capital that as grassroots politicians they have the capacity to bring in votes.
“These people are grass root mobilisers in the twenty one local governments. We also have people in wards from wards to polling units and we intend to make sure we generate not less than two hundred votes from each polling unit, up to the ward and local government. If you aggregate all these votes, it means you are not going to have less than a million votes for his Excellency Ahmed Bola Tinubu in the forthcoming election,” Sadik said.
He said that the group has the full support of the Governor of Kogi State Yahaya Bello.
The Coalition Chairman also addressed a question on whether the Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi is a threat to the APC candidate, considering that the APC is flying a muslim-muslim ticket.
Mr. Sadik, while commending Mr. Obi’s qualities however said that the Labour party’s candidate was in the contest at the wrong time.
“You cannot compare Peter Obi with Bola Ahmed Tinubu because the score sheet is very clear. Lagos State is like combining the whole Southeast States together as one state for Lagos state. The economy in Lagos state is like combining the economy in the whole Southeast States for Lagos state. If Tinubu can transform the economy in Lagos state for what he has done in eight years you cannot compare with what Peter Obi has done in his state for eight years to. So Tinubu has a record which everybody could see and that record has been consistent. To me Peter Obi has his own qualities but I think for now, he is in the market at the wrong time because he has a candidate in APC that has more credentials than him,” he said.
Mr Sadik appealed to Nigerians to focus on picking leaders based on competence rather than religion.
“We have to see how to reset the country out of three major crack- lines, ethnicity, religion and class and when you look at it, poverty doesn’t know whether you are a Muslim or a Christian, insecurity doesn’t know Muslim or Christian, all the indices that is hitting us on the face in the country today has nothing to do with whether you are a Muslim or Christian,” Sadik added.
